SERAPHIM TRIO SCHEDULE 2010
‘“…effortless ensemble, sensitive instrumental balance and unity of interpretation: natural homogeneity that only time can deliver…”
‘The Australian, December 2008
In 2010, Seraphim Trio celebrates the fourth year of our subscription series with a series of musical portraits. We commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of two great Romantics, Chopin and Schumann, by creating two unique musical portraits. As ever, we remain committed to the rhetoric and discipline of the piano trio’s classical roots, and each recital begins with a trio by an early master of the form: Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven.
Each year, we bring our audience a world premiere. This year we are delighted to be joined by the striking soprano, Lisa Harper-Brown, as we unveil a new collaboration between composer Graeme Koehne and librettist Peter Goldsworthy: The Ringtone Cycle, telling the story of a love affair in this text-message age. We are passionate about Australian music, and are thrilled also to present Roger Smalley’s Chopin-inspired piano trio.
We have had much joy putting these programs together, and can’t wait to share them with you during 2010.

In September 1853, after meeting the young Brahms, Robert Schumann jotted a few words into his journal: ‘Visit from Brahms, a genius’. Thus began one of history’s great three – way friendships, between Brahms and the two Schumanns. In this recital, Seraphim Trio explores this legendary relationship, performing works from all three composers, alongside readings from their letters.
